Getting Back to the Basics… with a Little Chicken Fried

Life is full of choices…so many options from which to choose. Just ambling down a grocery store aisle reminds us that every day, every hour, every minute, every moment practically, we need to make decisions. Granted, most are small choices, not weighty ones, and that is a good thing!

It is easy to become mired in so many potential decisions, and we can become afflicted with “paralysis analysis” which prevents us from moving forward.

A good strategy to assist with this affliction is to simply put things in proper perspective. Ask a few questions, like:

  1. Is anyone likely to die or be physically harmed if I make a decision that is not good in this case?
  2. Is anyone likely to be emotionally harmed if I don’t come to the right conclusion?
  3. Is my livelihood going to be greatly affected by making the wrong choice?
  4. Is a bad decision going to cost me more money/time than I can afford to lose?

Too-many-choicesIf you are coming up with NOs to all of these, then by all means LIGHTEN UP! Often, a bad decision is better than no decision, because you have taken action and can take future action to correct the outcome.

Zac Brown, country music singer, has the right idea in his song Chicken Fried, where he is expressing his simple gratitude for all things SIMPLE. This is an uncomplicated song, reminding all of us of what is really important in this life.

Don’t get mired in the unimportant, inconsequential things that pop up every day. Make your decision, move on, and keep your basic values always in your mind.
