Do you ever find yourself overthinking a problem? Hire consultants to help you figure things out? Go round and round with committees, dancing around issues but never coming up with solutions? Planning forever but never implementing?
Pretty frustrating, huh?
Often, the simple solution is the best one. Lots of sayings have sprouted around this one (ie KISS, if it barks like a dog, etc) and for good reason. The straightforward answer is often the easiest and most meaningful.
Are your sales not where you want them to be? Rather than bringing in a slew of “experts,” how about trying a few simple things first to see if that helps. Answer the phone quicker. Respond to emails in a more prompt fashion. Offer different solutions to your clients. Ask for a referral.
Is your office’s morale lower than you would like? Leave the HR experts out of it. How about asking your coworkers what they think the problem is? Maybe improve communication between your associates. How about offering a smile or encouraging word a bit more often?
Home life feeling a little strained? Rather than run directly to a therapist, maybe do something nice for your spouse. Ask some questions to let your partner know you care. Take a moment, step outside of yourself, and just put yourself in your spouse’s shoes. A little empathy goes a long way.
Will these tiny, marginal reminders and suggestions solve all of your problems? Probably not. But as my Great Uncle Jack used to say, it couldn’t hurt
