Do you remember Flat Stanley a two-dimensional boy in children’s books? I used to read these books to my daughters when they were young.
Here’s something to consider: there are very few “Flat Stanleys” in the world, and that is a good thing!
So many people are “multi-dimensional,” good at more than one thing. However, at work, or at home, or as a friend, it is sometimes hard to see what that “other thing” is that they are actually good at!
People have hobbies, outside interests, and skills learned as children or in previous jobs. If one digs a bit deeper than the “flat” surface, one can discover all sorts of hidden talents among the people one calls co-workers and friends.
Do yourself a favor — find that hidden talent and then put it to use to benefit both of you!
I work at a small company, and each person who works here is really good at their job. Often, though, they might be good at other things too that can help at work. One associate who is a graphic designer and was hired for her graphic design skills actually has additional mad skills in sign-making, and we didn’t even realize how good the skills were until after she had been working here a year! Why? Because we never took the time to discover that “secret” talent. Now, it’s like a two-fer! We have an awesome designer AND a great sign-maker. And her job is twice as secure!
Get to know your work associates and friends a bit better, see what they like, what their hobbies are, what they enjoy doing, and see if that particular skill can’t be worked in to benefit both of you!
