phoning it in

STOP PHONING IT IN …AND GET YOUR HEAD IN THE GAME!

Do you periodically find yourself drifting off at work, not fully committing to the task at hand? Have you been guilty of “phoning it in?”

If the answer is yes, you are not alone.

Life seems to be full of distractions these days, emails, tweets, Facebook, text messages, and, at times, you may find yourself off task, off track. Well, pull your head out of your, well, you know what, and PUT YOUR GAME FACE ON.

Now, more than ever, it is a great time, even necessary, for you to step it up at work.

Stop making excuses, and start making a measurable and meaningful contribution!

You can start by getting yourself prepared for work each morning. If you need your caffeine fix to get going or sustenance in your stomach, get that cup of joe and bagel in BEFORE work.

Stays focused by planning your day each and every day, setting measureable and obtainable goals, holding yourself accountable for accomplishing those goals, and remember to take pride in your work. When you work on something, work on that one thing. Multitasking often means giving two things less than half of the attention they need. Focus on one task, get it done right the first time, then move on to the next.

Finish your day by planning for the next so you have a crystal clear picture of what to expect tomorrow.

Lastly and most importantly, MAKE THINGS FUN!

I know that can seem like an impossible task at times, but your perception of work and your attitude about work are things you can control, and if you can control those two things, you can change your mindset.

Take a cue from William James when he said, “It is our attitude at the beginning of a difficult task which, more than anything else, will affect its successful outcome.
